Building a Brighter Future for Madang
Fellow citizens of Madang,
It is with great honor and humility that I address you today as your Provincial Administrator. As we navigate the challenges and opportunities of 2023, I want to share with you our vision for Madang Province and the progress we've made toward our shared goals.
This past year has been one of both challenges and significant achievements. Despite global economic uncertainties, we've maintained stable provincial finances while increasing investment in critical infrastructure. Our road improvement projects have connected more rural communities than ever before, and our health clinics have expanded services to remote areas.

Economic Development
Our economic strategy focuses on three key pillars: sustainable agriculture, tourism development, and small business support. We've allocated K15 million to cocoa and coconut farmer support programs, resulting in a 22% increase in production this year. The new Madang Coastal Highway, scheduled for completion in Q4 2023, will further boost economic activity by improving market access.
Education Initiatives
Education remains our top priority. The Provincial School Upgrade Program has renovated 35 classrooms across 12 schools, benefiting over 2,500 students. Our teacher training initiative has certified 150 educators in modern pedagogical methods. For 2024, we're planning to introduce digital learning centers in each district.
"True development is not just about infrastructure, but about empowering our people with knowledge, skills, and opportunities to thrive."
Healthcare Improvements
Our health sector reforms have reduced maternal mortality by 18% and increased vaccination coverage to 92% province-wide. The new Rural Health Worker Program has deployed 45 trained professionals to underserved areas. Construction begins next month on the Rai Coast District Hospital, a K25 million project funded through provincial and national partnerships.
Governance and Transparency
We've implemented new accountability measures including public budget hearings and quarterly performance reports. The Provincial Services Portal (launched last month) allows citizens to track projects, submit feedback, and access services online. I encourage all residents to register and participate in shaping our development priorities.
