Provincial Overview

Madang Provincial Government administers an area of 28,886 km² and serves a population of approximately 493,906 (2011 Census). It addresses diverse development challenges—from aging infrastructure and law-and-order issues to the high cost of delivering goods and services in remote highlands, coastal zones, and islands. The government fosters economic growth through agriculture (coffee, cocoa, coconut, spices), natural-resource industries (timber, minerals), and tourism, while overseeing major projects like the Ramu nickel-cobalt mine and the Pacific Marine Industrial Zone.
